British Cavalry Officer's Levee (Dress) Sword

A MID 19th CENTURY WARWICK YEOMANRY MAMELUKE SABRE BY C SMITH, 12 PICCADILLY, LONDON the curved single edged blade etched with flowers and leaf work decoration leading to the gilt brass hilt cast with acanthus leafs, the ivory grip complete with silver thread sword knot, original signed steel scabbard with brass gilt mounts 91cm overall.

From about 1800, the "mameluke" style sword was popular amongst cavalry officers as a dress sword. This practice continued into the early 20th century. Victorian and later examples are nearly identical to the pattern 1831 General Officer's Sword.

British Pattern 1853 Cavalry Trooper's Sword, 10th Royal Hussars

Steel swept bar hilt with regimental stamping "10 RH 348" (10th Royal Hussars), two piece leather grips. Sword knot tied to the hilt. Plain single edged slightly curved blade with fuller to the back section. Various acceptance stamps and markings. Blade measures 88cms in length. No scabbard. These swords first saw service during the Crimean War, the 10th Royal Hussars were engaged during the Crimean War at the Siege of Sebastopol and the Battle of Eupatoria.

British Pattern 1827 Rilfe Officer's Sword of Picquet Weight

Also known as levee swords, these swords were lighter and daintier versions of service swords. They were for for balls, levees, and other dress occasions when a full weight sword would have been cumbersome.

Victorian Rifle Regiment Officers Levee Sword, untouched example with pierced half basket hilt having crowned strung bugle. Fish skin covered grip. Housed in its steel scabbard. Finely engraved etched blade with crowned VR cipher to one side and Rifles bugle to the reverse. No retailers marks. Blade retains nearly all of the polished finish and remains in near mint condition. Blade measures 83cms, overall 101cms.
